The Wilinson Power Splitter operates using quarter-wavelength transmission lines and a strategic isolation resistor. The Wilkinson Splitter is typically designed with microstrip technology, making it compact and suitable for printed circuit boards (PCBs).

For a two-way split, the input signal enters the Wilkinson Splitter and is divided into two paths via quarter-wave transformers. These transformers match the impedance from the input to the two outputs. The key innovation of the Wilkinson Splitter is the integration of a resistor connected between the two output ports. This resistor dissipates any power resulting from imbalances between the outputs, ensuring that reflected or unequal power is not reflected back to the input. Consequently, the Wilkinson Splitter maintains a matched condition at all ports.
